it’s ok to doubt. if you’re not sure if what you’re hearing is really from the Lord, ask Him. this happens in both the Old and New Testament. Gideon and Thomas asked for proof; Gideon wanted to know if what the Angel of the Lord was telling him to do was really God and Thomas wouldn’t believe that Christ rose from the dead until he could see it for himself. in both cases, their doubts were dissolved.
but here’s the kicker … you’ve got to move! once He has shown you it’s really Him, you’ve got to do as He has commanded (even if it sounds absurd)
Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.” Judges 6:36-37
Now Thomas (also known as Didymus ), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” John 20:24-25
now that we are letting Him lead the way, even in the ugliest of times (see Stuck below), how do we actually become unstuck?
He does it!
how do we let Him lead?
how will we know what He is telling us to do?
what if the answer that is bringing you peace doesn’t seem like it’s the “right” fit?
that’s My God! He doesn’t abide by our rules, we should abide by His! search your motive and if your motive is pure and you are receiving His peace: it doesn’t matter what the world or anyone in your life says. He has provided exactly what you’ve been praying for: the path He wants you to step on!
always follow His Peace!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
who is, you? are you different for different people? does it matter what crowd you‘re in as to what version of you shows up? of course it does. that’s tiring, isn’t it?
good thing we have a Heavenly Father who accepts you in any particular moment or circumstance. you‘ll be met with complete grace, understanding and love. but in order to accept all He has, you must come as you are. open and ready for God to show up, not hiding any part of you. He already knows! it is you standing in the way because you come as you think He wants, not as you truly are.
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
you had to know it was coming… LOVE is a feeling. I once heard it described, “true love is a feeling, neither defined nor described but is experienced!”
believe me, I understand the harm in letting your feelings rule your decisions, because we can be fickle and wish-washy. what is truth this moment may not be the next. so we must be careful when love is a feeling. but if this ‘feeling’ repeatedly shows up, could it be truth? in my experience: it’s truth enough to take a look. God speaks to us all, and most times about things we don’t quite understand. (that’s when His wisdom is imparted if we are seeking Him) He has purpose behind every feeling, every emotion, every thought, every action. we may not trust ourselves to feel what we are feeling, but we can trust the One who put it there, who made us, who knows all and trust Him to explain. but we first have to let ourselves feel it and stop denying it.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
a growing edge for me is not allowing what others think of me and/or how they believe I should feel/do affect me. this is not an easy task. a benchmark for me and what I’ve taught my children is to figure out “when people speak words about you, is what they say true? if yes, embrace it. if not, trash it. (Craig Groeschel)
some days I have to remind myself of one of my life’s mission statements: I’m in control of my own thoughts, emotions, feelings; what others do and say should not have an affect on me … unless I let it!
a wise woman once taught me:
A+B=C (Action + Belief = Consequence)
the same Action produces different Consequences in each of us, dependent on our Beliefs. in other words: we control how an action affects us.
Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs 4:23 AMP)
I’ve made many mistakes in my life, but probably one of my biggest is not being able to tame my tongue. those closest to me know this and choose to love me anyway — thank you! I am also thankful for the reminder as I read Proverbs 10 today, specifically verse 19 from The Message, “The more talk, the less truth; the wise measure their words.”
real lessons for real life!
