these days, we tend to look so much at our future that we overlook what the Lord sets before us today.
the other day i was speaking to a friend who “one day wants to inspire others” in her field. she was saying as long as that was what she ended up doing, she’d be satisfied with her career. i simply said to her “if you inspire someone today, you’ll inspire someone forever.” i truly felt the Lord had used me to speak to her, as she was stunned by the simple yet profound concept.
isn’t this true for all we do?
* fulfill your purpose today, and you’ll fulfill it forever.
* do His will today, and you’ll do it forever
* do [you fill in the blank] today and you’ll do “it” forever.
live for today, until tomorrow becomes today, then do it all over again!
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34
from Christine Caine, and i quote…
“… fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you (Romans 12:2 MSG).
We are called to be.
A cycle of listening to an inspirational message, doing the right thing for a week then falling back into old patterns of behavior happens when we try to act our way to a good, Christian life.
But we are called to be.
Cycles like the one I just described can continue for years because we have not allowed Jesus to permeate the very core of our being and true transformation hasn’t occurred. We haven’t really undergone conversion, just a partial behavior modification. Essentially, we’ve become actors in a drama rather than pilgrims on a journey.
So today, allow God to work in you from the inside out. Allow Him to perform that heart-work so He can work through you in awesome ways and you can just be!”
many years ago I hurt my back beyond complete repair. without regular chiropractic visits I become somewhat immobile. I got thinking, this is not unlike our Christian walk, if we don’t regularly study His word and learn His principles on how to live and love others we become unable to really move in the direction He would have us move. we will become complacent or unsure of what to do or where to go or how to act. to prevent this from happening, we must daily seek Him and hide His maintenance in our heart!
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
I believe I’ve written before how God speaks to me a lot of times through short, concise phrases. sometimes even one word. when this is His choice of action, these words are all I can think about. so instead of combatting them, my actions in some form or another are tied to these words.
these phrases are extremely timely (of course) and have, over the years, built my faith in a God whom I trust implicitly. yes, even when life doesn’t make sense.
like now, I’m at that place in my life when I need to start thinking about the rest of it. questions about where I want to live? what am I to do career-wise? how do I move out of my comfort zone and experience all He wants me to, in order to become the woman He’s made me to be? and all the while His still sweet voice is whispering “keep stepping.”
as new doors open and possibly even close, these two words are my motivation to learning and being more of the woman He’s called me to be! even if the answer is to stay exactly where I am, I trust He’ll make it perfectly clear as I continue to step!
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.
Isaiah 30:21 ESV
it’s no secret I’m just a girl living for the here and now. of course I have dreams I’d love to see come true but that’s not what motivates me. I learned a long time ago that God, ever so purposefully, places me where He wants for that moment not for what could possibly happen in the future. does He use it all to push me toward His plan for my life? yes. do I sometimes get off track? of course. but it does not change the fact that I truly try to live in the present. to enjoy and flourish where God has me at that very moment. I want to be someone that knows how to make every moment count!
So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 8:15 NIV)
Today Is The Day
I Will Not Be Shaken
one of my favorite songs is Your Name. it’s a song that speaks of the names of God and the power behind them. (song according to Nic)…
“Your name is mighty
Your way is higher
by Your name:
*broken are mended
*weak are made strong
*hope for the nations
*mercy is free
there is life and power in Your name”
wow, look at all that! as I look at my life, have I accepted all that He is? have I lived my life knowing the pool of resources I have before me? truth of the matter is, no. “none of us are what we should be. His love is not based on your behavior, His love is based on His own character. He is love.” (Jim Cymbala)
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:8 NCV)
do you have a life verse? a life verse is simply a statement you cling to, a promise you stand firm on, no matter the circumstances in life. I have many life verses, one of which is (Romans 8:28 NKJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
with all that goes on around us, near and far, in this world… it’s a great idea to hold close some verses you can pull from to encourage your soul!
