as i sit here and reflect on the last forty days and how the Lord worked in my life as i “gave up” the spirit of poverty for Lent, i am thankful for the knowledge He is always faithful to show Himself when we truly seek! it doesn’t take a genius to know He would show me the areas i was rich in and how counting and recounting those riches/blessings does wonders for how i approach each day. but what i didn’t expect was lessons in obedience, the attitude with which money is spent and the confirmation of how He is always working on us and is faithful to use what He is working on for our betterment!
two very significant events happened within the last 40 days, along side a host of others. i wish i could sit here and tell you of each event but that would take too long. so i’ll just leave you with this statement i sent via text to a friend as He took care of His child; “i obediently listened to His voice and He took care of me with an option that wasn’t even an option! He showed up and showed off!”
isn’t that just like Him?!
My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:1-5
Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.” John 8:47
certain lessons you have to learn on your own. in fact, most lessons fall under this category. as a parent, it’s tough because all you really want to do is protect your children from this big bad world. as the adult learning a new lesson … it can be quite disconcerting. especially when it comes on the heels of advice (very wise advice I might add) from dear friends who have actually walked what you’re walking.
not unlike a child who slams their finger in a drawer after being told repeatedly not to play with it, lessons learned in this manner tend to hurt. but better yet, they stick with you. some things just need to be experienced before they hit home!
I thank my God for placing wisdom filled individuals into my life and for His protection and correction when He sees fit!
Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.
Proverbs 19:20 ESV
The Word Speaks
Got Your Back
as I lie in bed this morning, listening to the thunder and rain, I was reminded of a time when where I lived rain was common. thunderstorms happened often. an experience my children had only a short time before moving clear across the US.
a few years back, where we live in California actually had some pretty bad thunderstorms during school hours, a scene not so common here. at the age my children were, classmates were scared, but they were not. they were able to encourage and assure their peers not to fear. it took just that little bit of exposure years prior, for my kids to be able to help others in a similar circumstance.
God doesn’t let anything go to waste. when we go through tough times, we are better equipped to help others who may go through a situation of the like.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV)
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (James 1:2-3 NIV)
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2 NIV)
