It’s OK

it’s ok to doubt. if you’re not sure if what you’re hearing is really from the Lord, ask Him. this happens in both the Old and New Testament. Gideon and Thomas asked for proof; Gideon wanted to know if what the Angel of the Lord was telling him to do was really God and Thomas wouldn’t believe that Christ rose from the dead until he could see it for himself. in both cases, their doubts were dissolved.
but here’s the kicker … you’ve got to move! once He has shown you it’s really Him, you’ve got to do as He has commanded (even if it sounds absurd)

Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.”‭‭ Judges‬ ‭6:36-37‬

Now Thomas (also known as Didymus ), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”‭‭ John‬ ‭20:24-25‬

Let Us Grow

are you content in your life? If you can answer yes to this question, then I suggest diving deeper. whether it’s deeper into relationships (especially the one with Christ), deeper into education, or deeper into yourself to figure out what the Lord wants you to do next.
if you are not so content and are unsettled, left wondering what am I to do, pursuing these same things will work well for you also.

I once heard it said, “contentment is the enemy of growth.” i tend to agree!

But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.” John‬ ‭5:17‬

40 Days Later

as i sit here and reflect on the last forty days and how the Lord worked in my life as i “gave up” the spirit of poverty for Lent, i am thankful for the knowledge He is always faithful to show Himself when we truly seek! it doesn’t take a genius to know He would show me the areas i was rich in and how counting and recounting those riches/blessings does wonders for how i approach each day. but what i didn’t expect was lessons in obedience, the attitude with which money is spent and the confirmation of how He is always working on us and is faithful to use what He is working on for our betterment!

two very significant events happened within the last 40 days, along side a host of others. i wish i could sit here and tell you of each event but that would take too long. so i’ll just leave you with this statement i sent via text to a friend as He took care of His child; “i obediently listened to His voice and He took care of me with an option that wasn’t even an option! He showed up and showed off!”

isn’t that just like Him?!

My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God. Proverbs‬ ‭2:1-5
Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.” John‬ ‭8:47‬

Listen To Your Heart

there is so much (too much if you ask me) debate these days over the bible, its meaning, its translations over the centuries and its relevance for today. although most of you know where i sit on this, i’ll try my best to steer away from my thoughts on the topic and what i believe He has revealed to me.
but i will say one thing that has been a mini revelation to me. we talk about Psalm 119:11 when the author writes how he hid the Word in his heart “that I might not sin against you.” and yet the “written” word hadn’t been penned yet. hmm, got me thinking…

if Jesus equals the Word as the bible says He does in John … it seems logical that it is Him we should be “hiding” in our hearts. not necessarily the written word, seeing as the author of this particular Psalm hadn’t even had it (the bible) to refer to when writing.
for me, i’m hiding love in my heart. Jesus, Himself, said the greatest command is to love Him and love others. He IS love! if i love, all else will fall into place as He deems fitting!
Amen and thank you Jesus that the only translation of the Word that is completely accurate is quite simply, You!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
‭‭John‬ ‭1:1-5‬

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
‭‭John‬ ‭1:14‬

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:14‬

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:30-31‬

Spoiler Alert!

He wins!
even though some days this may feel like the only victory you can grab onto, it’s enough!

a recent prayer of mine: thank You that You’ve already paid the price and won the war. we can have confidence in knowing our life isn’t just a series of ups and downs with no reward. life isn’t defined by the last circumstance we dealt with or even the circumstance we are dealing with right now. You made us and this world we live in … we know the ending … no one can quash Your purpose for my life or anyone else’s!

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16:33‬

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:57‬

the bible says “In this world you will have trouble,” so I’m never surprised when trouble comes. life happens, circumstances get burdensome, hearts break, situations become down right hard and darkness can inevitably ensue. but it doesn’t have to. let’s not forget the second part of the verse, “I have overcome the world.” Jesus has already won, therefore we can already win!
when darkness tries to rear it’s ugly head remember, Jesus IS light! and where there is even a small glimmer of light, darkness disperses! let Him in!

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:12‬

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Three Sixteen

I’m a numbers girl, that’s no secret. but let me tell you something about the number 316 not many people know: it calms me! it’s true. whenever I see it, whether on a digital clock or a sign of some sort, an address on a building or a page in a book. it doesn’t matter where I find myself in life: sad or happy, frustrated or content, angry or joyous, one thing is constant … when it comes to seeing 316, a smile comes to my face as I am reminded of Him. His love for me. what He did for me. and that He is in control!
those who know this about me, have poked fun saying “it’s because it’s your birthday date” but I’m here to say: no it’s not! it’s because these numbers remind me of the most famous verse in the bible, the foundation of my faith. along with that, a verse that gives simple instruction on how we are to live. check it out …

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John‬ ‭3:16‬

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
1 John‬ ‭3:16

IF this, THEN that

Is It Enough?

… to ‘just’ pray when:

* your adult children falter
* someone you love hurts and physically you can do nothing
* you’ve hurt someone
* you’re hurting
* words escape
* circumstances are beyond your control
* tragedy strikes
* listening ears disappear

this list can go on and on, especially in a world where there is now so much hate. this hate trickles into areas it has no right being. it’s not a secret that satan rules this world but take heart the Lord has overcome it All!

so to answer the question, Yes! prayer is enough, even if we feel we want to do more. prayer changes things. not always the circumstance, but most definitely how we view it!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:8‬

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16:33‬

God Has The Final Say

lots of chatter going on, in response to yesterday’s “Day in History!” of course this is very expected and I respect views on both sides of the (prayerfully one day) [non]- issue. we are products of the way we were raised and the environment in which we find ourselves today. we ALL have a choice here and that choice is either to love or not.
I, by no means, have an activist bone in my body but after reading some hurtful “truths” all I can do is respond in love and with love. sometimes I hesitate to call myself a Christian because of the way “Christians” act toward other human beings. aren’t we called to love one another? in spite of who we think someone may or may not be. in spite of what we believe the Bible says or doesn’t say. God has made each and every one of us in His likeness, period. this may be stepping out on a limb here, but unless you’ve faced this topic square in the face, you really don’t know the half of it. I challenge you to really research what the Bible says and not take others’ word for it. Let Him speak to you and search your own heart. stop hating and start loving! stop throwing stones, drop them all! and let God work as He pleases! doesn’t He have the final say anyway?

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. (‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭12‬ NIV)

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (‭John‬ ‭13‬:‭34‬ NIV)

And The Winner Is…!

as I went to read a Psalm today, I was prompted to “start at the end.” Psalm 150 gives one simple instruction “Praise Him!” what a simple answer to all our problems!
He has overcome! whether we see it this lifetime or the next, we know the ending! we know who wins! start living as if you really know the ending. live life with a smile on your face! walk each day with pep in your step!
start at the end and make today count!

Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. (‭Psalm‬ ‭150‬:‭1-6‬ NIV)

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” (‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ NLT)
