Bring It

i may differ than most when i say trials are welcomed in my life. here’s why, i know the Lord is doing a work in me when they occur and He’s molding me into more of the woman He’s designed me to be. more times than i’d like to admit, i fail but that’s exactly how we learn! i like to believe, He is “trial-ing” me because He thinks i’m ready. and if i fail, it just means i’ve got more to learn!

thank you Lord for picking on me!

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
James‬ ‭1:2‬

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let Him In

God has a purpose for everything. I’m not saying He causes all that happens to happen. but what I am saying is He will use every heartache, every smile, every victory, every defeat, every circumstance, every everything for His glory and to bless us – IF we allow Him to. there is no telling what He’d do within and for us if we’d just take the time to stop and ask,
“Lord, what would you do?” or
“Lord, what do you want me to do?” or simply to say,
“Lord, thank you!”

our lives would not only be richer but we’d be reflecting Him to those around us and drawing them closer to Him.

include the Lord in everything … we’ll all be the better for it!

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
James‬ ‭1:5-7‬

Inside Out

although hanging with others who bring out the worst in me is not a goal in life, sometimes it is unavoidable. I’d even go so far as to call them a blessing. hear me out…if someone brings out the worst, then that means there is “the worst” to be brought out.
take the opportunity to work on yourself. get to the bottom of the trigger point. allow God to work from the inside out, pushing all the garbage out as He fills you with all that is good!
make the best of every situation in order to be the best version you!

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
‭‭James‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:18‬ ‭NIV‬

Who Me?

ever have a moment when you know you need to apologize but for some reason or another you try to talk yourself out of it? this happened to me not that long ago. my reasons were quite valid to rule in favor of “nope, not gonna do it” reasons like:
*it will fall on deaf ears
*I’ll look weak
*it won’t make a difference
*it’s not my place
*she hurt me
*what if the apology isn’t “accepted”
*what if my motivation is misinterpreted
*too much time has passed

…and I could list many more but the truth of the matter is none of them are significant when the Lord speaks. even if all the reasons listed above were true (and they were), it all boiled down to pride and fear and obedience. was I going to put my pride and fear aside, in order to obey the One I live for? Yes!
so, I did. I even went old school and wrote a letter. this way I wouldn’t know any thing more than my part. it wasn’t about the person I was apologizing to, it was about me and my ability to hear Him and take action.
the result: assurance I did the right thing and freedom to move on!

I love the way a member of Life.Church put it “Realizing your part in your struggle—then apologizing for it—is the first step on the path out.”

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
‭‭James‬ ‭5:16‬ ESV

when it comes to descriptions of ourselves, words are just words. words have no meaning without action. we can say all day long we are this or that but without proof, only fools would believe us. I can’t sit here and tell you I’m a great woman of faith without showing you on a daily basis. why would you believe me? just because I spoke it?
it is not enough to speak, you must live! I love this quote from Billy Graham “Sermons which are seen are often more effective than those which are heard.”
live your worth!

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭22‬ NIV)

Embrace, Learn, Encourage [repeat]

as I lie in bed this morning, listening to the thunder and rain, I was reminded of a time when where I lived rain was common. thunderstorms happened often. an experience my children had only a short time before moving clear across the US.
a few years back, where we live in California actually had some pretty bad thunderstorms during school hours, a scene not so common here. at the age my children were, classmates were scared, but they were not. they were able to encourage and assure their peers not to fear. it took just that little bit of exposure years prior, for my kids to be able to help others in a similar circumstance.
God doesn’t let anything go to waste. when we go through tough times, we are better equipped to help others who may go through a situation of the like.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭3-4‬ NIV)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭2-3‬ NIV)

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭2‬ NIV)

Busy Bee

Do bee’s take pleasure in their own honey? can’t say that I’ve seen a bee smacking its lips over its gooey end-product. in the same way are we too often too busy to appreciate? by “too often” I mean often enough that you can’t enjoy what God has ever so carefully (and purposefully) placed in your life? busyness is the end result of many equations: ambition, season of life, responsibility to just name a few. in our times of “too busy,” stepping back and taking time to inventory what He has already given us verses wanting or doing more (for whatever the reason) is important. I don’t think He would give us gifts in this life if He didn’t want us to enjoy them. why give it then? certainly not to ignore them.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17 NIV)

#stopthelabels (2)

“sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never hurt me”: who in the world came up with that nonsense?
as I glance at social media, labels are prevalent, implicitly. not on purpose (well, most of it anyway). much of it is just a product of our upbringing and/or environment. the references to others that are less because they look different or act different are astounding. God’s creations that are less because of an opinion the writer thinks is true, can hurt to the core. ok, even if these opinions were true, what gives us the right to voice them? seriously, I’d love it if our opinions were saved only for when they were asked of us!

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” (‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭7‬ NIV)

Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. (‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬ NIV)

Prayer 101

as I embark on a journey to become one who prays more effectively, I know there will be many points of wrestling. things like: how to pray, what to pray, how long should I pray, is it alright to pray for this, where should my focus be ?? the list will go on and on. for someone who is not a goal setter, I often struggle with the “what to pray,” meaning praying FOR what. do I really have the right to ask God for what I want? seeing beyond today is tough for me. I do not want to be selfish but on the flip side I do not want to miss out because I didn’t ask or hadn’t taken the time to explore what I want AND how it lines up with what His will is! phew! this will be a long road, but one I’m ready to go down. may there be only one set of footprints, as He leads and I follow! [see Footprints for reference]

“What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “I want to see!” (‭Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭41‬ NLT)

Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. (‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭2c-3‬ NLT)

You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. (‭Joshua‬ ‭6‬:‭3‬ NLT)

Ultimate Gift Giver

I’ve always had admiration for those of you that consistently give the perfect gift. me, I’m a not-so-great gift giver. I’m more of a list girl: give me your list and I’ll get you something you want not something I think you should have.
I’m thankful the Ultimate Gift Giver is nothing like me. He knows what I need more than I do. He gives it all freely! and more importantly, perfectly! in most cases He goes beyond what we can dream and supplies things we didn’t even know we needed!
who is your supplier?

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17 NIV)
