there are so many different ideas of the word sacrifice out there. from what we give to others, to what we deprive ourselves from. mom’s and how they give until they can’t give anymore. spouses who support at all costs. teachers for their students, employers for their employees. wealthy for the unwealthy, less fortunate for the even less fortunate. whether it’s time or money, to give sacrificially isn’t easy.
someone once told me, “it’s only a sacrifice if it hurts.” this statement certainly makes sense when you take a look around our world today. many give only to expect something in return (like a return on their investment or recognition) and most are giving from their plenty not understanding what it is to give even when there isn’t much to give. whether your commodity is time or money, the bible calls us to give even when you think you have nothing left. to give our all for Him and His purposes!
please hear me, I’m not saying good isn’t being done by those giving out of their plenty, the Lord knows their hearts and the good being done! but what I am saying is our lives could be that much more richer if we learned to give as the widow did! giving out of need not out of plenty.
They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” (Mark 12:44 NIV)
