as I lie in bed this morning, listening to the thunder and rain, I was reminded of a time when where I lived rain was common. thunderstorms happened often. an experience my children had only a short time before moving clear across the US.
a few years back, where we live in California actually had some pretty bad thunderstorms during school hours, a scene not so common here. at the age my children were, classmates were scared, but they were not. they were able to encourage and assure their peers not to fear. it took just that little bit of exposure years prior, for my kids to be able to help others in a similar circumstance.
God doesn’t let anything go to waste. when we go through tough times, we are better equipped to help others who may go through a situation of the like.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV)
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (James 1:2-3 NIV)
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2 NIV)
