What Are We Missing?

Psalm 3:3 seems to be in my head and heart a lot this week. David speaks of God as the Lifter of his head. I understand the conventional meaning of this verse but what about this …
in this world we have become so consumed by technology, the ability to have the information we want when we want it, all delivered to the smart device we hold in our hand. this causes us to not be completely present where God has us. how many times have you seen someone walking down a hallway or sidewalk or your home with their head buried in their device? when this happens, things are missed, opportunity is lost. we miss out on the chance to talk to others, to have God use us to bless another that may just need us to put the grocery cart back for them because they are having a bad day. maybe someone just needs a smile because they got some really crushing news. the point is: we don’t know what we are missing and we won’t know until we lift our heads from the little device we hold in our very capable helping hand! I don’t want to miss out anymore! I want to look into people’s eyes, not the top of their head!

But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. (Psalm 3:3 NIV)
